He angitūtanga | About the role
We have been monitoring our white-bellied skink for the last decade and it is clear they need our help. We have initiated a project to try and protect this precious species in its natural environment. As a Ranger, you will play a central role in this exciting programme. The position will be working in the Stour Valley running predator trapping lines and monitoring the white-bellied skinks, this includes:
installation, servicing, and maintenance of kill traps
annual monitoring of the white-bellied skink
predator monitoring using trail cameras
data capture and management
working in variable weather conditions.
This role is predominantly field-based, working Monday - Friday. Your roster may involve working on public holidays and applicants may need to commit to working through the Christmas/New Year period.

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
back country experience
comfortable working in a remote location solo / in small teams (this includes living in backcountry accommodation for 3-4 nights at a time)
experience in various methods of predator trapping and monitoring species
be physically fit, practically minded, have a can-do attitude and is someone who wants to get things done and can work under sometimes trying conditions
good data management and accurate record keeping
critical thinking - able to resolve issues in the field
initiative - takes action to achieve results beyond what is normally called for
full NZ driver license.
Desirable:
experience and/or qualifications in the practical management of biodiversity
four-wheel driving training and off-road experience
LUV qualified
a current first aid certificate.

The salary range for this position is $55,278 - $64,578 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
